Mental Health Day: Turn off!
The challenge was very simple. We invited those who casually passed by the Glicínias Shopping Center to turn off their cell phone and join us around a table for a moment without stress
Let us guess, dinner was being boring and you decided to pick up your smartphone and slide your thumb across the virtual sea waiting to find something that would break the silence. Or were you in your time to relax, after a day of classes or work, and decided that the best way to spend that time was to scroll through social networks. Or perhaps you did not even choose, maybe you didn't even realize that when your mind was free, you felt the need to fill it with the help of your smartphone.
In this text that stopped the dance of your thumb, you can see how the celebration activity of the mental health day held by Agora Aveiro took place on October 15 at the Glicínias Shopping Center.
Many of the participants felt good during the challenge and revealed that they did not feel the need to use their mobile phone. However, they always had the volunteers of Agora to be able to communicate. What if they could not communicate with us? Where would your mind go for shelter?
Despite being a controversial subject, some studies even claim that dependence on smartphones is a real phenomenon pointing to its impact on an individual's mental health. With this activity we want the participants to become aware of their relationship with the technology they have and the impact it can have on their mental health.
Mental Health is not only the absence of disease, it encompasses a state of physical, mental and social well-being, as defined by the World Health Organization. Sometimes there may be a tendency to underrate mental health towards physics or other health problems. However, mental and physical health are inseparable and influence each other. In addition, disorders in mental health influence not only the individual as well as those around him.All the technology we have today for information and communication is revolutionary, powerful and has enormous potential. It is in our hands to use it to improve our quality of life and not the other way around.
