“Plantar o Futuro” has flourished once again and, this year, with great support from the academic community. It was on October 2nd that the spaces of the University of Aveiro became greener.

The volunteers of Agora Aveiro placed 2000 trees in front of the administration building. During the afternoon, they handed these out to the brave ones who embraced this project. Students, staff, and teachers had the opportunity to adopt the tree that will keep them company for the next 3 months.

The dean of the University of Aveiro set an example for the student community and supported “Plantar o Futuro” by helping to deliver the trees, but he wasn’t the only one. The rectory team was there, once again showing openness to actions that encourage their students to adopt greener practices. Neither the Conselho do Salgado nor the Academic Association of the University of Aveiro could resist the challenge.

It is now time to take care of these trees, which will later be planted in Estarreja. During the next quarter, the participants will have to water them and, above all, protect them. But there’s no reason to fear, Agora Aveiro’s biologists are standing on the other side of a medical helpline to aid the mission.

After some intense and tiring days of preparation, at the end of the day, we had tremendous satisfaction and joy on our faces. The number of participants this year made a tremendous leap from the first edition. We gave a new home to 1 500 trees, which, in my opinion, will make a beautiful story to tell.

The first part of this edition of “Plantar o Futuro” filled everyone’s hearts with the atmosphere of happiness, well-being and solidarity developed in the days surrounding the event. All that’s left to do now is keep an eye out. We still have a long way to go. But together we fight for something. We are the change.
