Poverty eradication was one of the millennium objectives that should have been attained in 2015. Despite this, in Portugal, for every ten people, two live with less than 400€ a month. Thirty-four hundred of these are homeless.

Aveiro woke up to a call to reflection on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. At the square Dr Joaquim Melo Freitas you could find a wardrobe, a piece of furniture more likely to be found in a bedroom. On the mirror, you could read "Will you continue to look at only yourself?", and inside there were clothes to be taken by those who so wished. We wanted to call the passerby's attention to poverty and to appeal to their senses of compassion and solidarity to those for whom the streets have to be a house.

On the side of the wardrobe, there some information about the Project Giros, developed by IPSS Florinhas do Vouga, that supports people who live on the streets of Aveiro. A well as a list of the most crucial goods for the ones who intended to contribute to this cause.

If you want to donate goods, you can do so at the headquarters of Giros, at Rua Santa Maria da Feira nº 33, Bairro Santiago, from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 1 pm.

Urgent goods:

Shampoo and body wash, razors and shaving cream, deodorants, toothbrushes and toothpaste, underwear, footwear (sneakers), jeans, jackets, sleeping bags, blankets.

"Precisas? Então Leva!" is a project developed in partnership with IPSS Florinhas do Vouga and with the support from Casa Martelo and Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude I.P..
