Motivated by the well-being of planet Earth, the “Guardiões da Natureza” (Nature’s Guardians) dedicate themselves to protecting and caring for the environment, promoting exciting and eco-friendly activities that delight and educate people of all ages. Recently, these defenders of nature were spotted on 8th and 9th June during the 2024 edition of "EcoAventura".

"EcoAventura" is held annually and stands out as one of the events promoted by the Aveiro City Hall. It features activities focused on  sustainable development and environmental conservation, aiming to raise children's awareness of these topics. The “Guardiões da Natureza” set up a space filled with fun and educational activities that invited everyone to come closer and experience the “Sentidos da Natureza”, establishing a strong connection between humans and the surrounding environment.

One of the activities presented was the creation of the famous “Tintas Naturais” from red cabbage extract, which produces a variety of colours through the addition of a base or an acid. In this creative journey, children could use their sense of touch and smell not only to paint artworks but also to celebrate the richness of biodiversity by discovering new shades and textures of natural elements.

Moving on to the sense of hearing, the excitement in the eyes of the children as they experienced the rhythms and sounds from the “Instrumentos com Materiais Reciclados” made the moment even more enriching. Using buckets, plates, lids, screws, bottles, and more, the children learned to reuse these materials in ways they had never imagined while having fun.

Animal life was also an essential part of the proposed activities. Thinking about the sense of taste, “Comedouros de Pássaros” were created using recycled materials once again. Accompanied by informational cards about the birds found in our country, the children could use their sense of sight to observe the species flying around the area, learning about the importance of these living beings, their characteristics and how to feed them using everyday materials to make feeders.

This weekend, the “Guardiões da Natureza” demonstrated once again that a greener future is within our reach. The participation in "EcoAventura" allowed an interactive approach between the volunteers and the public, energising activities that made a difference. It is never too much to encourage children to reuse materials and care for animals, the environment and the planet. So, keep the hope and determination alive, because together we will make the world a better place!

The “Guardiões da Natureza” is part of the project "Plantar o Futuro" by Agora Aveiro. It was supported by the Câmara Municipal de Aveiro and IPDJ - Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude I.P..
