Listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO since 2010, Mexican cuisine stands out for its diversity of flavors, colors and textures. From “salsa” - a term used in Mexico to describe any type of sauce, mostly tomato-based - to the famous enchiladas and ceviche, there was plenty to learn (and to eat) on board the latest edition of “I Love Aveiro - Cooking for Solidarity”.
This session was led by Elena Bonifaz, who was born in Mexico City and has been living in Aveiro for around four years. Elena's passion for cooking stems from a combination of her childhood memories, spent in the kitchen with her mother, and her academic background, which includes a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and a master's degree in Education.
And it was with a didactic but playful spirit that Elena involved all the participants in the preparation of a meal that included delicious guacamole, a Mexican tortilla workshop and even some refreshing margaritas.
This edition marked the end of the “I Love Aveiro - Cooking for Solidarity” project, which over the last few months has brought different cultures that coexist in the Aveiro community to the table, demonstrating how the integration of those who choose this city to live in often starts with the curiosity to get to know them.
“Cooking for Solidarity” is part of “I Love Aveiro” project and is organized by Agora Aveiro in partnership with concept store Alma de Alecrim, Histórias ao Lume, and CLAIM Aveiro. It is co-financed by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union. It also had the support from the Municipality of Aveiro and IPDJ - Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude, I.P..
