Last Friday, May 16, a group of 30 children and seniors from the Casa Mãe de Aradas Social Solidarity Association and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Aveiro participated in another activity of the “Jogos Sem Idade”. This initiative provided a morning filled with games, interaction, and great fun for all participants.
Naturally, the event included the presence of volunteers from Agora Aveiro, who designed and led the games, helping to make the moment truly intergenerational.
Beyond offering a special and different day for everyone involved, the “Jogos Sem Idade” — and particularly the interaction between the elderly and the children — created an opportunity to share knowledge, stories, and experiences. The activities also brought both physical and emotional energy to all participants through various games, such as giant dominoes, ring toss, or simply the traditional game of kicking a ball.
Although everyone played at their own pace — which is part of what makes this diversity so enriching — all were able to take part in the activities and contribute to a collective experience.
By the end of the event, the joy on everyone’s faces was clear — a reflection of the moments shared. The farewell came with smiles and a desire to repeat the experience.
Intergenerational interaction has an extremely positive impact: it helps fight loneliness and isolation, strengthens the elderly’s sense of purpose, and contributes to the emotional and social development of everyone — both young and old. For this reason, Agora Aveiro intends to continue supporting and growing this project.
“Jogos Sem Idade” is part of Agora Aveiro’s “Random Acts of Kindness” project. It was held in partnership with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Aveiro and the Casa Mãe de Aradas Social Solidarity Association. It is supported by the Aveiro City Hall and the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ - Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude I.P.).
