The 3rd edition of RIA – Ruas de Intervenção Artística takes place this Saturday afternoon, 12 September, with nine commercial spaces in the centre of Aveiro welcoming artists from different fields.

This Saturday, the historic centre of Aveiro will once again be transformed into an artistic route with the 3rd edition of RIA – Ruas de Intervenção Artística. From 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm, nine local shops will welcome artists who, for one afternoon, will bring illustration, music, visual arts, ceramics, photography and other forms of artistic expression into the shops.

RIA is based on a simple idea: bringing art closer to people and placing it in the spaces that are part of the city’s everyday life. Instead of visiting galleries or museums, participants are invited to walk through the centre of Aveiro, enter the participating shops, meet the artists and discover their different artistic proposals.

To follow the route, visitors can collect the RIA booklet, which works as a passport through the city. At each participating venue, they will find an artist, an artistic intervention and a stamp. The challenge is to visit the different shops, complete the booklet and, at the end, receive a small prize.

This edition brings together nine artists and their artistic projects, distributed across different local businesses:

• Cacaw — Sara Domingues, illustration;
• Slow Life Coffee Roasters — Miguel Duarte, illustration;
• Ciclaveiro — Tiago Carvalho, illustration, writing and sculpture;
• PokeBox — Hélder Antunes, music;
• YEAH! — Auristela Emperatriz, visual arts;
• Bastardo — Carolina, ceramics;
• Pela Estrada Fora — Flávia, collages and photography, and Sophia, illustration;
• Raiz, O Vegetariano do Bairro — Ana Reika, crochet;
• The Iron Duke Pub — Moisés, music.

During the route, entry to the participating venues is free and visitors can complete the circuit at their own pace. Members of the organising team and volunteers will be spread throughout the city centre to provide information and help guide the public.

The day will end at 6:30 pm, at Jardim do Mercado Manuel Firmino, with a community gathering open to everyone. The event will bring together artists, local businesses, participants, volunteers and visitors for an afternoon of socialising, entertainment and music.

More than an artistic event, RIA aims to create an experience of discovering the city, bringing together art, local commerce and community, and inviting people to experience and look at the centre of Aveiro in a new way.

RIA – Ruas de Intervenção Artística is a project by Agora Aveiro, a non-profit youth association based in Aveiro that develops projects in the areas of volunteering, non-formal education, social inclusion and the promotion of the city among the local and international community.
