Let's Seed the Future

The children of the Santiago School Center, seeing the devastation that the fires caused, also wanted to do something for the forests and nature. Thus was born the "Semear o Futuro"!

While preparing the 4th Edition of the "Biology Planting the Future" Project, the Association of Parents from the School of Aveiro gave us an unexpected challenge! The children of the Santiago School Center, seeing the devastation that the fires caused, also wanted to do something for the forests and nature. Thus, Agora Aveiro was invited to develop an activity aimed at children.

We accepted the challenge and decided to make seed bombs - small balls of clay and substrate containing seeds in the interior that, when thrown to the ground, explode in a colorful mantle of life. We launched a challenge to Argex, an expanded clay production company headquartered in Aveiro, which promptly offered to help us. Thus, with the precious help of the "Guardians of Nature", we went to the  Santiago School Center where we were received by classes of 3rd and 4th grade, a total of more than 100 children desiring to get their hands on the ground.

Initiatives like this share the spirit of Guerrilla Gardening movements that aim to promote education and environmental awareness. In addition to the dozens of seed bombs, there were also smiles and giggles, leaving dirty hands  and a huge desire to help nature!
